A Vaccine for Alzheimers? Texas Researchers Close In

Researchers in Dallas report theyve developed an experimental vaccine that fights the plaque-forming protein thats believed to contribute to the development of Alzheimers disease. At the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Robert Rosenberg says theyve injected animals with the DNA code for the plaque-causing amyloid protein, and the subjects immune systems responded by creating antibodies. «This antibody crosses into the brain and binds to the amyloid inside the brain and invokes a mechanism to remove it.»
