AXION Announces $500,000 Order From Trinity Railway Express for Its ECOTRAX(TM) 100% Recycled Rail Ties …Ongoing Orders ‘Green’ Trinity Railway Express by Using 1 Million Pounds of Recycled Plastics in High-Performance Composite Rail Ties
AXION International Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB : AXIH), a leader in recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies used to produce ECOTRAX™ rail products and STRUXURE™ building products, today announced it has received an order over $500,000 for its 100% recycled ECOTRAX™ composite rail ties from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for use in the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) that connects Dallas and Fort Worth. TRE regularly purchases and installs ECOTRAX™ main line rail ties as well as specialty ties for use in crossings, turnouts and bridges.
«DART and TRE are committed to preserving the environment and overall sustainability. This latest order eliminated the need to cut down more than 2,500 trees,» stated Timothy H. McKay, Executive Vice President, Growth and Regional Development, DART. Instead, over 1,000,000 pounds of plastic has been diverted from the landfill stream and recycled into high-performance composite rail ties. «AXION is delivering a high-performance composite rail tie that exceeds our customers’ expectations. We are pleased that TRE, like several other domestic and international rail lines, is submitting ongoing orders. Reorders from current customers are the strongest testament to our technology and the value it delivers,» stated AXION President and CEO Steve Silverman.
ECOTRAX™ Sales Manager Cory Burdick added, «We value our relationship with TRE. They have been an industry leader in the adoption of composite rail ties. TRE’s diverse track applications call for a variety of composite ties that support bridge applications, freight trains, heavy haul commuter lines, street crossings and turnouts. Our complete line of ECOTRAX™ main line and specialty 100% composite rail ties require zero maintenance and downtime, last two to three times longer than traditional materials, and ultimately provide a strong value to TRE and its commuters.»
DART moves its passengers around Dallas and twelve surrounding cities with modern public transit services and customer facilities tailored to make trips fast, comfortable and economical. The extensive network of DART Rail, Trinity Railway Express, and bus services moves more than 220,000 passengers per day across DART’s 700-square-mile service area.
ECOTRAX™ composite rail ties are made from AXION’s patented, 100%-recycled plastic formulation.
