Book, documentary in works on ex-NY Gov. Spitzer
NEW YORK – Penguin Group will publish a book about disgraced former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer written by an author of a bestseller on the fall of energy company Enron.
Penguin said on Wednesday that its Portfolio imprint had acquired the rights to the book that will be written by Fortune editor-at-large Peter Elkind.
Spitzer resigned on March 12 after The New York Times reported he had patronized a $1,000-an-hour prostitute. That ended the career of a former state attorney general who made his name by prosecuting malfeasance on Wall Street.
Penguin said Elkind will be collaborating with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, who is directing a documentary about Spitzer. The pair previously collaborated on Gibney’s Oscar nominated film adaptation of Elkind’s 2003 “Enron: The Smartest Men in the Room.”
