DALLAS – November 10, 2008 – Dallas is a far cry from the North Pole. Yet, for the last 20 years, St. Nick and his entourage of marching bands, giant inflatables, costume characters and dancers have commenced the holiday season in North Texas at the Neiman Marcus Adolphus Children’s Parade. More than 350,000 parade-goers join Santa in downtown Dallas every year on the first Saturday of December to share in the cherished holiday tradition. This year’s Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, at 10 a.m.

The theme of this year’s festivities is “Santa’s Whimsical Workshop,” and spectators will get a sneak peek into the tremendous efforts taken to prepare for Santa’s biggest night of the year. More than eight giant inflatables will float down the Parade route, and friends like Miss America, Strawberry Shortcake and Spider-Man will excite both the young and the young-at-heart. The world-famous Hardin Simmons University Cowboy Band will perform its “cow step march” on Commerce Street, and the sophisticated ladies of the Dallas Tap Dazzlers will jazz viewers of all ages.

In addition to being an annual holiday tradition for families, the Parade is a significant fundraiser for the Child Life department at Children’s Medical Center. Members of the Child Life department hold advanced-degree training in the growth and development of children. It’s their job to help patients of all ages cope with the hospital experience and understand their diagnoses in age- and developmentally-appropriate ways.

WFAA Channel 8 will broadcast the Neiman Marcus Adolphus Children’s Parade live, and more than 350 television stations in 159 markets will show the Parade in syndication throughout the holiday season. The Neiman Marcus Adolphus Children’s Parade has become an award-winning holiday tradition for thousands of families throughout North Texas and coast to coast. Last year’s Parade earned two Gold Awards from the International Festivals and Events Association, including one for best full-length television program (national).

This year’s Parade is presented by Capital One Bank, one of the newest tenants in downtown Dallas, and sponsored in part by both Neiman Marcus and the Adolphus hotel, two of downtown’s landmark businesses.
