Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD and Univision launch educational TV Segment “Unidos Para Aprender”
Dallas ISD is joining forces with Fort Worth ISD and Univision DFW, to launch Unidos para Aprender (Together to Learn), 58-minutes of daily instruction in Spanish for students in grades pre-K through second grade. The segment will air Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., on KSTR UniMas 49, Univision DFW’s local sister station beginning May 11.
The three-way partnership seeks to support student academic progress by supplementing the at-home learning resources Dallas and Fort Worth ISDs are providing to Spanish-speaking families during the covid-19 pandemic.
The programming will feature instructional content created and hosted by teachers from both school districts. In addition to instruction designed for early childhood learners, the classes will include lessons in science, physical education, social studies, art, music, math, social and emotional learning.
“While there has been a need to stay apart for safety’s sake during COVID-19, the pandemic has also brought the community together,” said Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. “Individuals and the business community have reached out with an impressive level of generosity, and educators and students have felt that love and support. Thanks to Univision for helping us continue to serve our Spanish-speaking families. This partnership between Univision, Fort Worth ISD and Dallas ISD is proof that despite the pandemic, working together we can make a difference.”
“Every crisis brings an opportunity – to learn, to grow, and to work together in finding new ways of fulfilling our mission,” said Superintendent Kent Paredes Scribner. “We are so grateful to Univision for this opportunity to engage our Spanish-speaking students and families. We are also excited to work with our colleagues at Dallas ISD in producing this exciting work.”
“It is our longstanding mission to serve the needs of Hispanic families and we couldn’t be prouder to partner with two of the largest school districts in the nation to provide young children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with education resources to help them continue learning in this unprecedented time,” said Mark Masepohl President and General Manager, Univision DFW.
Unidos para Aprender will feature several students from each school district. The segment is scheduled to begin airing Monday, May 11, and will air through the remaining of the school year.
