DART leaders address slow service during storm

DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit President Gary Thomas met with board members on Tuesday.
He briefed them on exactly what happened to force last week’s shutdown of light rail service during the winter storm. Thomas also discussed the slowdown of service during the rest of the week.
The meeting followed an online apology to residents of DART’s member cities. Thomas thanked them for continued loyalty to the service.
The board sought a clear understanding of the problems in order to prevent those issues from happening again.
DART said last week that trains were unable to run due to switches that were frozen on its light rail network.
The Trinity Railway Express, a commuter line linking Fort Worth and Dallas, came closer to maintaining a regular schedule during the storm and its aftermath. TRE is jointly operated by DART and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority.
