The annual battle of the Red River, Oklahoma and Texas. The best state border war in college football today. Wow, what a let down of this game. The Sooners walked into Dallas, more like stampeed their way into the Cotton Bowl, and rolled all over Texas in a 55-17 blowout. A big day for Landry Jones, who was slinging the ball around the Cotton Bowl, 367 yards and three touchdowns. The Sooners passing attack was killing the Longhorns defense, and the Sooner defense contributed to the scoring when Demontre Hurst went 55 yards for a touchdown on a pick off of a pass from Texas QB Case McCoy. I remember back in 2001, when the Sooners went into halftime of a Texas-OU game, and the halftime score was OU 45-Texas 0. This was about as close to it. After this game became final, we now know which team has BCS written all over it, and which team has a long way to go.
When a Texas Ranger hits a home run, it is history. To quote Rangers play by play man Eric Nadel. Well in the post season, Rangers home runs has been making history. The home run hatrick by Adrain Beltre in game 4 against Tampa Bay. And recently, the extra inning grand slam blast by Nellie Cruz that beat Detroit in game 2, that made people say «wooah Nellie.» To sum up the Rangers post season up to this point, the bats have been lively, with timely hitting. This is suprising because Michael Young and Josh Hamilton has not got their offense cranked up yet. The role players on this Rangers team has stepped up, and they need to keep the Rangers afloat while the big guns start to hit. The pitching, starters have been so so, but the bullpen has been solid when need be. And Neftalie Feliz has been shutting down the oppenents when called upon. I’m beginning to see a Mavericks type championship run going with the Rangers. There is a long way to go to the end, but things are piecing together nicely for a Rangers return to the Series.
The Dallas Stars hit the ice running recently, as the NHL season gets going. Coach Glen Gulutzan and his Stars played 3 games in 4 days to begin the season. They split the home and home with Chicago, then a afternoon match with Phoenix was tight but Phoenix was up 1-0 till Louis Errickson scored the tying goal at 22.7 in the third. Goalkeeper Kari Letionen shut down Phoenix for a 2-1 win. The offense is a work in progress for Coach Gulutzan, but he knows that he has a rock in goal with Letionen. And he is turning into a shut down goalkeeper allowing 2 goals in three games. No need to start playoff talk yet, but the Stars are on the right road.
