Not since 1935, when number one SMU and number two TCU, were playing a football game that had a lot on the line. 2010, number 4 TCU came to Dallas to face a SMU team that has got good since Coach June Jones arrived to the hilltop. Early on, SMU was giving the Horned Frogs all they can handle, up 7-0. Ponies running back Zach Line had a great game, 139 yards on 17 carries. TCU quarterback Andy Dalton had his struggles in this game. A Dalton pass got picked off by SMU and returned deep in frog territory, setting up a SMU touchdown for the Ponies to go up 17-14.
Just when you thought SMU was going to suprise a lot of folks watching at Ford Stadium and on ESPN, TCU return man Jermey Kerley took the kickoff 83 yards to set up Andy Dalton touchdown pass to Bart Johnson. An 11 yard TD, and a Frog lead that they never gave up. The Frogs rolled from there to a 41-24 win, keeping the iron skillet
SMU may have lost the game, but they did some things that the Frogs really never do. SMUs Zach Line ran for 139 yards, the first running back to run for over 100 yards since TCU coach Gary Patterson took over the job 9 years ago. They gave up a lot of points and yards to SMU. Frogs will be in BCS contention the whole season, but SMU can hang their hat on some positive things coming from this Metroplex battle.
