Direct Energy Contributes Energy Equipment to the Family Place
DALLAS – Direct Energy, LP announced today that it has contributed $5,000 to The Family Place to help purchase of two water heaters, five dishwashers and an AC unit for use in emergency shelter and extended-stay transitional housing. This donation, part of the company’s ongoing community outreach, will be used to further assist The Family Place’s efforts to serve and support families in the Dallas area.
“We are committed to supporting the communities we serve by providing local organizations with the resources they need to continue serving critical community needs,” said Phil Tonge, president of Direct Energy’s Texas Operations.
Direct Energy’s Energy Equipment program provides the funding to non-profit organizations for the purchase of energy-related equipment. In 2005, Direct Energy, CPL Retail Energy and WTU Retail Energy have contributed more than $1.5 million to the Texas communities it serves.
The Family Place’s mission is to stop family violence by educating the public about family violence and providing counseling and “safe harbor” residence for victims and their families. The agency opened one of the first shelters for women victims and their witnessing children in 1978. During its 27 years of service, The Family Place has counseled more than 75,000 clients, provided life-saving shelter to more than 12,000 women and children and answered more than 320,000 calls for help.
