Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Endorses Judge Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court

Board of Directors Urges Texas Senators to Confirm Qualified Candidate

Dallas, TX – The Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, one of the oldest and largest Hispanic chambers in the country, endorses the nomination of New Your Appellate Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Sotomayor’s experience as an attorney and a judge demonstrates that she is an ideal candidate to become the newest member of the country’s highest court. Since being nominated to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Sotomayor has authored more than 150 opinions in civil cases on a wide range of issues.

Her decisions on the appellate bench have been pragmatic and fair. She has kept close to reading of federal statutes that govern business disputes that have come before her.

“We have joined with the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and dozens of other Latino organizations in the country in supporting President Obama’s nomination of Judge Sotomayor because she is the best candidate for the court,” said Rick Ortiz, chairman of the board of the GDHCC. “We have no doubt that her life experiences combined with her legal acumen make her a fair and balanced jurist of whom everyone can be proud.”

The board of directors of the GDHCC hopes that by adding its endorsement to those of other nonprofit and professional organizations, the Senate will move swiftly to confirm Judge Sotomayor.
