Local Single Mother of Five Celebrates Happy New Year With New Car Donation
Local Single Mother
A North Texas single mother of five will be celebrating the start of a happy new year this Friday when she and her children are presented with keys to a practically brand-new SUV fully loaded with gifts for the family.
Mayra Torres will receive a completely restored 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander provided by GEICO and refurbished by teammates at Caliber Collision in Frisco who volunteered their time and talent as a community service program to repair and donate cars to individuals in need of reliable transportation.
Torres’ life was unexpectedly turned upside down last year when a family crisis left her alone to care and provide for five children, ages 1-12. Without any income, Torres, who had been a stay-at-home mother, and her children had to leave their home and most of their belongings to move in with relatives. Torres also had to give up their only car, making it even more challenging for her as she took on odd jobs to earn income.
Things are looking up for Torres who now has a full-time job as an administrative assistant in a medical office. The car donation will put Torres back in the driver’s seat as she continues on the road to rebuild and restore her family’s life.
The car donation from GEICO and Caliber is part of the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides™ program in which collision industry businesses team up to repair and donate cars to individuals in need of reliable transportation. Torres was nominated for the car donation by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County
Over the past six years, Caliber Collision and its industry partners have repaired and donated over 300 cars valued at over $4 million to individuals in need of reliable transportation.
