MALDEF Seeks Redistricting Coordinator; Rep. Alonzo Urges Qualified Applicants to Apply

AUSTIN, TX – The Mexican American Legal Defense & Educational Fund (MALDEF), San Antonio Regional Office, is currently seeking a Redistricting Outreach Coordinator to work in their San Antonio office to conduct community education and outreach for the Latino community, establish working relationships with various ethnic and political coalitions and develop redistricting plans for Texas and the Southwest. Texas State Representative Roberto R. Alonzo urges applicants to apply and consider the well-paying job which offers a generous benefits package including employer paid medical, dental, vision, life, short and long term disability insurance. Additionally, it offers a 403(b) retirement plan, 20 days of personal time off per year, and eleven paid holidays. MALDEF is the nations leading non-profit Latino civil rights law firm. Founded in 1968, MALDEF works to promote the civil rights of Latinos living in the United States.

«With the final numbers of the 2010 Census data still tricking in and with redistricting destined to become the hot topic issue for legislatures all over the country, including the 82nd Texas Legislature, this would be an ideal position for any person to help shape the process in our state,» stated Rep. Alonzo.

«Moreover, the position becomes even more important when we consider the fact that Texas was one of the big winners in population growth states across the nation, gaining at least 4 new congressional seats in the US Congress, including one for the DFW/North Texas region,» continued Rep. Alonzo.

«I urge applicants to apply. As I have said before, making sure we have the most accurate, reliable, and up-to-date census data and redistricting information is vital because of the many implications this will have for our region, continued Rep. Alonzo.

«Redistricting and the census count are so equally important. They go almost hand-in-hand because of the significant impact economically and the political clout they can bring to any particular region of the state and country, but more especially for areas like the Dallas/Fort Worth/North Texas region, which are expected to have strong population growths. The increased census numbers, coupled with the new redistricted maps we get will determine not only additional federal dollars for this region, but also added clout at all levels of government alike, whether it be at the local, county, state, and federal levels,» concluded Rep. Alonzo.

This position is funded for a maximum of 12 months, at anywhere between $36,000 to $39,800 per year plus benefits. Download full job announcement. Posted 1/7/11.
