Rep. Alonzo & Wife Sylvana Honored on House Floor With Silver Anniversary Congratulatory Resolution

AUSTIN, TX – To their surprise, Dallas lawmaker, Texas State Representative Roberto R. Alonzo and his wife Sylvana were ceremoniously honored on the House Floor today, with a resolution celebrating their 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary. Married twenty- five years ago in Crystal City, Texas the Dallas residents of over 2 decades, were honored with House Resolution 2629 which recognized “this joyous event…as a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable journey together as husband and wife.”

“As we approach the closing, and perhaps the busiest days of the final week of the 81st legislative session, I am honored indeed that my colleagues this evening took a few minutes away from their hectic schedules on the House floor to join me and my wife Sylvana to celebrate our Silver Anniversary in the State Capitol. First elected in November 1992 for elective office to the Texas Legislature, I can think of no other historical building in Texas than the State Capitol to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary. And to be surrounded by many of my legislative colleagues on the House floor who have served with me through over 12 years of public service is even more humbling, both to me and my wife Sylvana,” said Rep. Alonzo.

HR 2629, which was primarily authored by Representative Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles (of Alice); and joint-authored respectively, by Reps. Yvonne Davis (Dallas); Carol Kent (Da-llas); Barbara Mallory Caraway (Dallas) and Armando “Mando” Martinez (Weslaco) was cere-moniously passed at approximately 6 pm. Chairwoman Davis later made a motion to have all members of the House added to the congratulatory resolution. After passage of the resolution, members of the legislature passed swiftly through one of the Capitol dining rooms where they congratulated the Alonzo’s personally as they were served cake for the occasion.

In addition to congratulating them for their wedding anniversary, the resolution goes on to commend both Rep. Alonzo and his wife Sylvana for the many years of pub lic service they have both devoted to their communities.
