United Way Campaign Underway
The public is invited to participate in the City of Carrollton’s annual United Way campaign, which runs through November. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will raise money for the campaign and public participation is encouraged. The tournament will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at the Rosemeade Recreation Center (1334 E. Rosemeade Pkwy). The entry fee is $10 per player; up to 24 teams can register with three to five players per team. Anyone age 16 years and older can play. The registration deadline for teams and free agents is October 22. Forms and rules are available at Rosemeade and online at cityofcarrollton.com. All players will be entered in a prize drawing and first and second place teams will receive trophies.
A 3-point shootout will also take place at the basketball tournament. All ages can participate for $5 per person. A prize will be awarded to the winner. A $1 donation is required for all tournament and shootout spectators. Interested persons may obtain event details or make a general donation by calling Bob Bland at 972-466-3052.

Free Movie on the Lawn (A.W. Perry) – Oct. 24
Enjoy Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920) outdoors at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum (1509 N. Perry Rd). The film stars actor John Barrymore and is based on the Robert Louis Stevenson novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The movie will be projected at dusk onto a large canvas screen draped across the front of the barn; bring lawn chairs or a blanket for seating. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
Sounds of October – Oct. 27
The Carrollton Wind Symphony will perform the “Sounds of October” on Tuesday, October 27 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church (5801 W. Plano Pkwy, Plano). Books for Treats – Oct. 31
Celebrate Halloween at either Carrollton Public Library location this year from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. All children ages 12 and under are invited to wear their Halloween costume to either the Josey Ranch Library (1700 Keller Springs Rd) or the Hebron and Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Ln) and pick out a free book while supplies last.
Spring Creek Model Railroad Club Train Display – Oct. 31
Kids, adults and model train enthusiasts are invited to the fourth annual Spring Creek Model Railroad Club Train Display from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 at Rosemeade Recreation Center (1330 E. Rosemeade Pkwy).
