
WellCare Community Foundation Donates $75,000 To Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
TAMPA, Fla.- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) today announced that the WellCare Community Foundation has donated $75,000 to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. WellCare will also match employee contributions to the American Red Cross.
In addition, WellCare is working with other agencies to provide resources and coordinate local volunteer efforts, fundraisers, and blood drives. It will also establish a relief fund for employees impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
«Our members, employees, families and friends have all been affected by Hurricane Sandy,» said Alec Cunningham, WellCare’s CEO. «We are committed to supporting first responders, like the American Red Cross, that can mobilize quickly and get our communities what they need most.»
The American Red Cross is helping people across 13 states with safe shelter, food and comfort as part of a huge disaster response to Sandy. Since Saturday night, more than 60,000 people spent the night in nearly 200 Red Cross shelters, and workers have served more than 215,174 meals and snacks. The organization has deployed more than 3,882 disaster workers from all over the country. Nearly 244 response vehicles have also been deployed and are circulating through communities distributing meals, water and snacks.
