WellCare Supports Heart Health With Sponsorship Of Healthy Family Training Camp
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) is showing its support for heart health by joining the American Heart Association and the University of Louisville as a sponsor of the upcoming Healthy Family Training Camp. The company donated $10,000 to help underwrite the event, and WellCare employees will be volunteering at the event activities.
The Healthy Family Training Camp will be held Sunday, Dec. 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the KFC YUM! Center. It focuses on providing families with the resources and activities they need to be heart healthy. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet University of Louisville athletes, and attendees who pre-register at getfit2012.org will receive a free ticket to the University of Louisville women’s basketball game against the University of Kentucky, which tips off at 6 p.m.
«WellCare is pleased to support such a worthy event,» said Mike Minor, WellCare of Kentucky president. «Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Kentucky and coronary heart disease is the number one killer nationally of women over age 20. While Kentucky’s mortality rates from all cardiovascular diseases have declined over the past two decades, they remain higher than the national rate. Events like the Healthy Family Training Camp, which educate through family-friendly activities, can help contribute to healthier lifestyles and improved health outcomes for all Kentuckians.»
«The American Heart Association is pleased to partner with WellCare and its other sponsors to help educate Louisville-area families about the importance of physical activity and nutrition,» said Courtney Burge, director for the American Heart Association. «Through programs like the Healthy Family Training Camp, we are making a positive impact in our community by reducing the risks of heart disease and stroke.»
