Parents get curriculum guides at October conferences with teachers
During Parent Conferences in October, the parents of elementary and middle school students were given guides to the district’s newly realigned curriculum. Included in the guide are tips on what parents can do at home to support their children’s classroom work. The realigned curriculum and the new curriculum guides are part of the district’s plan to meet the student achievements goals set by Dallas Achieves!, a Dallas ISD initiative.
What the students are expected to learn at each grade level in math, reading, science, social studies, physical education, arts, and the Talented and Gifted program is aligned from prekindergarten to 12th grade.
One of the suggestions of the National Center for Educational Accountability for meeting student achievement goals was to develop clear, specific, and rigorous academic objectives by grade and subject area from prekindergarten through 12th grade.
A curriculum guide for grades nine to 12 will be available to parents in November. All guides are available at schools or by visiting the Academics section of www.dallasisd.org.
