The City of Dallas MLK Jr. Community Center and Buick/Pontiac/GMC to celebrate 32nd Harambee Festival
The public is invited to attend the 32nd Harambee Festival: Celebrating African Culture in Our Community” to be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2922 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
“This year’s Harambee will be an event to remember. For 32 years, Harambee has provided great environment filled with lots of fun and entertainment for the whole family,” says Patrick N. Jackson, manager of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.
This year, Buick, Pontiac & GMC along with KKDA-FM (K104), KRNB-FM (KR&B 105.7) and KKDA-AM (Soul 73) present the Ultimate Family Reunion Event. The free family festival includes interactive games, music and the chance to win a $10,000 Family Reunion for a lucky family that registers on-site that day! Sweepstakes rules are available on-site and at the radio station offices at 621 Northwest 6th Street , Grand Prairie .
Harambee Festival activities include:
9 a.m. – The Francis Burns Heritage Parade. The parade will begin at the Forest Avenue/Lamar Street intersection and march to the community center.
Complete lineup of music, from R & B, Southern Soul, Gospel and Hip Hop
Guests can stop by the “All Access” area and interact with Buick, Pontiac and GMC lifestyle activities representing each division.
—Buick – Beyond Precision – customers can enjoy jazz favorites while relaxing in a spa-like environment.
— Pontiac – Designed for Action – Dance in the party tent with Live DJs.
—GMC – Take part in the “Professional Grade” Sports Challenge, or see your favorite Dallas area Athlete up close and personal.
The Arthello Beck Watoto Village children’s play area will include activities for children, such as the Real Playaz Inc. 06 Play Station booth, face painting by Go Van Gough, 911 simulator, bounce house, and other games and activities.
The Founder’s Corner, located on the Center’s grounds near Malcolm X Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue , will feature poet and storyteller performances, African music and dance acts, gospel singers and jazz performances.
